How to change wallpaper on Lubuntu 14.04

Alright, welcome back to this blog, today i'm going to show you how to change wallpaper on lubuntu 14.04 trusty, this may also work for other version of lubuntu.

To change wallpaper on lubuntu is quite simple, but to use your own image as wallpaper requires little bit of work, which i will show you too in this article.

But first let me show you how to change wallpaper on lubuntu :
  1. right click on your lubuntu desktop.
  2. select Desktop Preferences.
  3. click on wallpaper and select one of the existing wallpaper and then click the "open" button or just press enter.
  4. that's it, your wallpaper should changed now.
These are lubuntu 14.04 built in/existing wallpapers :
  • 1404-Arvore_by_Cleide_Isabel.jpg
  • 1404-Copan02_by_Cleide_Isabel.jpg
  • 1404-Daisie__Cleide_Isabel.jpg
  • 1404-lubuntu-default-wallpaper.png
  • 1404-Vale_Cleide_Isabel.jpg
  • 1404-Vista_Do_Fitz_Roy_Cleide_Isabel.jpg
  • lubuntu-default-wallpaper.jpg
  • lubuntu-default-wallpaper.png

As you can see, lubuntu 14.04 trusty comes with several wallpapers, and if you try to use your own wallpaper it just won't work.

But don't worry, there is a trick to add your own wallpaper into lubuntu, this trick is done from command mode/terminal.

The wallpapers are stored on /usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/, so all you have to do is copy your jpg or png files to that folder.

And of course you need to copy as root, so for example i have an image called mywallpaper.jpg, then this what i do :

sudo cp mywallpaper.jpg /usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/

If you want to remove wallpaper, you can use the rm command, like this:

sudo rm /usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/mywallpaper.jpg

or if you are already inside that folder, type this:

sudo rm mywallpaper.jpg

~good luck~
